Head Start is a child and family development program for income-eligible households in Itasca and Koochiching Counties. The program is designed to help young children, aged birth to five, and their families achieve their full potential. The Head Start program literally gives children a head start on their journey of lifelong learning. The program also gives families the chance to work on goal setting to help them move out of poverty and into self-sufficiency.

Dear Parents/Guardians:

We are looking for 3-4 year olds! Please remember to call for an Early Childhood Screening appointment when your child turns 3. Screening is not an intelligence test. We screen early because:

• All children must be screened once before kindergarten entrance or participation in an Early Childhood program.
• Screening is free, it’s fun, and it’s a great opportunity for you to see your child’s total growth.
• If potential problems are identified, your child will receive appropriate follow-up or be connected with resources in the school and community.
• We can refer your child to Preschools and Early Childhood opportunities. Your child will automatically be enrolled in a school district at the time of screening.
• A screening includes:
  • Height/Weight
  • Vision/Hearing
  • General development
  • Health history
  • Immunization review

• Students and staff will go outside each day unless the outside temperature is below zero, or the wind chill is below zero (staff will use discretion). Please use the Weather Channel app on the IPAD to determine temperature.

• If your district closes, your site will NOT be open.
• Please listen to your local TV or Radio for any announcements. Please ensure your contact information is up to date to receive instant alert messages.

• When school is 2 hours late, we will also run 2 hours late
• Bussing (where provided) – expect the bus to be approximately 2 hours late (with a little give-and-take for bad roads!)
• Classes will begin at 10:00 a.m. with drop-off beginning at 9:45
• Hub Extended Care will begin at 9:00 a.m. for families already enrolled in AM care.

• If school is closed early due to severe weather:
  • Children will be bussed home (if a current bus student) or picked up by parents as noted on their emergency form.
  • Extended Day will remain open until all children are picked up.
